Your Year-Round Gardening Solution

Just like any investment, landscaping can be susceptible to harsh winter weather. As a Landscape Architect who has over 30 years experience specifically in the DFW market, I’ve witnessed severe freezes in Dallas back in 1980 and again in 2020. I understand the frustration of losing beloved plants like Pittosporum, Indian Hawthorns, and Crêpe Myrtles. Even worse, we are facing two consecutive years of extreme freezing in 2021 and 2022, making it challenging to replant our favorite plants.

However, instead of simply replanting, it may be time to reconsider the design and rethink your garden. Clients often want a beautiful garden year-round, but with the unpredictable weather and forecasted droughts, it’s essential to manage expectations. This is an excellent opportunity to reevaluate, redesign, and give your garden a fresh new look.

If you’re looking to replace plants, I highly recommend Holly, which is evergreen and tough. Boxwood, Roses, Azaleas, Camellias, Crossvine, Wisteria, and Carolina Jessamine are also proving to be excellent choices for the Dallas area, and can add a bit of color to your garden. Let’s turn this setback into an opportunity to re-imagine and redesign your garden with beautiful, functional landscapes that will thrive in any weather condition.
