When Park Cities residents ask for a landscape architect referral, one name always gets shared: Harold Leidner Landscape Architects. For more than 35 years, the luxury firm has custom-designed and built exceptional outdoor living environments for discerning homeowners in some of Dallas-Fort Worth’s most prestigious and gorgeous neighborhoods. This project, in a tucked-away corner of Highland Park, was no exception.

The most important room in the house is no longer inside it. Across Highland Park, University Park, and Preston Hollow, a quiet shift is reshaping how Dallas’ finest homes are conceived. The landscape is no longer a decoration to the architecture; it is an extension of it. A living room beneath a canopy of mature oaks. A wellness retreat open to the sky. A dining room whose ceiling is the evening itself.

“Our mission is to create timeless landscapes that enrich everyday life by thoughtfully uniting architecture, art, and nature through disciplined design and precise execution,” says Leidner.

Every once in a great while, a property comes along that offers a truly rare opportunity–and this Highland Park estate was just that. A rare one-acre Highland Park lot, a majestic tree anchoring the landscape, and a magnificent home designed by Larry Boerder created a once-in-a-career canvas. – Harold Leidner, Landscape Architect

Jared Leidner, also of Harold Leidner, shares that water comes up in the planning stage of every project. From koi ponds to waterfalls, people are embracing reflective, flowing elements — giving their yards a hint of refreshment from summer’s sizzle, as well as year-round beauty.

Landscape architects have passed state and national exams to be officially qualified, explains Leidner, who is a licensed landscape architect. They also have an extensive understanding of grades, topography, elevations, drainage, and sun patterns.
