Not everyone has the luxury of a sprawling estate, but that doesn’t make their outdoor spaces less critical. In fact, for many homeowners in University Park and smaller lots, a well-designed backyard is essential to everyday living and entertaining.
Most lots in these neighborhoods have modest backyard space, which makes thoughtful design even more critical. In this particular project, we were challenged to create a seamless transitional landscaping outdoor environment on a small lot in University Park. The goals were to provide privacy screening, integrate a grill, and create an effortless transition from the home to a small recreational pool.
Our primary focus was balance—ensuring the pool wasn’t oversized and the decking and entertaining areas weren’t undersized. The success of this space comes down to proportion, layout, and selecting the right materials to maximize usability in the transitional landscaping design. Great design can make even the smallest spaces feel expansive and inviting.
