Some people love golf, and other people really love golf. It was a privilege to partner with home builder Greg Alford on this unique project. Inspired by the 13th hole and the azalea backdrop at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, this particular client wanted a full-scale short game practice facility, as well as a hitting bay for practicing with a full range of clubs. The undulating greens, complete with freeform bunkers, is surrounded by numerous chipping areas to hone your golf shots to perfection. Tee boxes were placed throughout the garden for practicing shots from a variety of distances, as well as a number of angles and pin placements so the owner could perfect his game. Synthetic bunkers were used to reduce maintenance and one real white sand bunker used for true sand practice. Shot yardages range from chipping in to a first cut of rough, to full-wedge shots at 110 yds. A secondary putting green was added by the pool area, and finally, a dry creek bed was added in front of the green as a visual hazard.
