Glen Abbey Modern Transformation
This unique project features a raised swimming pool with a dramatic waterfall, self-watering pots for low-maintenance plant care, and Conservation Grass installed throughout the property for lasting beauty and easy upkeep. As you approach the residence, a curated sculpture garden sets the tone for the experience, offering a striking visual moment even before entering the home.
This was an especially rewarding project in Glen Abbey—a traditionally classic neighborhood known for its conventional architecture. Over time, however, styles have evolved, and this home marks a thoughtful modern update in collaboration with SHM Architects. Together, we created what is arguably the first significant modern residence in the area. Though contemporary in design, the home sits harmoniously within its surroundings, thanks in part to the use of hand-carved Leuders limestone installed in a refined, modern pattern.
The backyard design is exceptional, with uninterrupted views of the golf course beyond. A raised pool not only serves as a visual focal point but also doubles as additional seating for entertaining. The patio flows seamlessly to the pool’s edge, enhancing the sense of scale and openness, even within a compact yard.
One of the most captivating features of the home is the entry experience. The front landscape embraces an arid aesthetic, delivering visual impact with minimal maintenance. As you enter through the front door, you’re greeted by a tranquil courtyard anchored by a dramatic wall-mounted sculpture. Both the main residence and the casita are oriented around this central courtyard, creating a harmonious and private retreat. The home’s layout encourages effortless movement and connection—ideal for both everyday living and large-scale entertaining. It’s a perfect example of a “lock-and-leave” property that still feels substantial and inviting.
